Where in the world am I located?
I am in the Wonderful land of Puppetry.
If I woke up one morning and found out I was a puppet...I'd be...
I would bounce up and down on my thick yards of foam and cover myself with all my faux fur... comfy... cozy... happy....

Then they would have to call the Paddy wagon and take me away!

What kind of question is that?
When you see the men in the white suits coming after you...
RUNNNNN!!!
What part of puppetry am I involved in?
Originally I'm a sculptor & used my sculpting techniques into foam which brought me into puppetry.
I started in the bizz building props and creating for interior decorators.
Who or what inspired me to get involved in puppetry?
My Grandfather was a great artist.
He went for years to art school, but because of the depression and finding work in this area was scarce. He became a machinist and worked with the older companies like Hot point and so forth.
Who do I admire in the world of puppetry?
There are so many.
I know that its repeated that Henson was their hero in puppetry.
But we tend to forget about the old timers, like all the wonderful ventriloquists and cartoonists that came up with the original old ideas of using ones imagination.
Puppetry is just the 3-D side of it.
Let me tell you more about me...
I'm Puppets by Cher, just type it in an URL and I'll come up.
I'm originally from Chicago and you can see my sculptures from Ditkas bar and grill - downtown Chicago. Worked with some of the finest Interior Decorators, sculpting anything from Huge 2 foot tall Jacks.
Created everything from a gigantic lion wall mounts to a tree replica growing out of the wall across the ceiling.

Pretty much retired and mostly do charity.
Have a daughter with Downs which is my love of life.
Happy to be alive and meet others who have the same interests as myself.
My Puppet Company, Team or Club is....
They're all over the world who use my puppets.
From a puppet museum in Switzerland, to vents on stage performing. Hospitals on the children's ward to clowns and entertainers and police agencies.
This is a great honor for me and what I'm able to contribute to this life time.
Organizations I belong to are....
I belong to here.
I have tried others but for some reason the other sites I have belonged to just looked at puppetry for more of the money or popularity aspects then the true meaning for why they were developed.
Whether its an expression of ones art or religious faith.
Puppetry is intended for a source of Entertainment, Art to even a teaching aid.
Some are taking puppetry to where all things I suppose do as well... making it ugly.
Some sites I can't even look at.
Originally a Chicago girl, I've seen all types of Art.
But it seems that some are taking it to such an Ugly form.
Shame it is.
But it's our choice where we wish to contribute and belong to.. isn't it?
Same as our friends and who we choose to associate with.

How to copyright your work

I was asked to post this and I hope you find this very informative.

I created a forum on copyrighting your work a few years ago.
Whether it be Art or in Puppet form.

Hi Betty,
Yes, I'm working on an e-book with a designer.
Hope to get it finished this year.
I'll have step by step instructions and pics and with the e-book we can attach videos as well.
I'm even including a supply resource section.
What took me years to find the best suppliers, I'll have all in one source.
Thank you for your interest and kind words.
Appreciate it very much.

Take Care,
Cher

I was on puppet hub and they were talking about the DVD foam book vs the foam book. which is better. One of the members (Petro Nilla) mentioned you and said Drew Allison did a great job on the Nip and tuck method to get you going on the basics.
But you should contact Puppets by Cher.
She does her own method and made it a lot easier with short cuts as you can read on P&S last I've seen.
She also has a method where she heats the foam and it that's where she gets all those cool facial expressions. Do you have a site or a blog that would help me. I have the foam book but i'm still having a tuff time forming my puppets. thanks for any help

Good Day! Just wanted to say thanks for the comments on our blog. I just spoke with a grandmother the other day who has a daughter that is expecting a second child and the doctors are saying that this one may be downs syndrome. I encouraged her to know that God was in control and to keep trusting Him.
We do know the requirements of a special needs child as well - as our daughter Elisabeth is autistic. She does well and we could never imagine not having her just the way she is. She is so very special and looks at things differently than most people do. Of course we have some days where we would like to pull out a little of our remaining hair, but the good days far out weigh those type of days. And I must say she has adjusted really well to having Essie G at home now. We ar eever so proud of Elisabeth and Essie and count them as two special blessings from God. Thanks for being a great friend!

I do use a lot of humor in my shows. Also we talk about other issues including grief. This came up when I was talking with Nigel about my new cat. One 4th grader shared about her cat's death the day before. That led to other students sharing about loss of pets over the years. This was during a Laughology Program last week. The teacher invited us back for a follow up program next week. The vent figure (John) doesn't get out much. At size 7 he adds another carrying case just for him to be transported. (My back sometimes gives me "grief"....
